Population 400 th. Famous for its textiles and its population of women working in the textile industry, thus "the city of brides" cliché. But don't rush there to get your Russian bride because the gender balance is not different from anywhere else in Russia. 

Officially a "Golden Ring" city although it feels more like a factory town. A huge number of Soviet monuments. But since Ivanovo is on your way to Yaroslavl you may as well visit it. Especially if you are into architectur that is found here mostly in three forms: industrial style from 1880s, constructivist buildings form 1920s, and Soviet-era concrete in unusual quantity and intensity.

Here is one advertised in English: Alexander, tel. +7-905-107-0077, the ad says "from 900 roubles" which probably means about 1200, or $40/night. Russian landlords tend to name the monthly rate broken by the number of days as the rate. Some of the more advances ones will even name price per person, eg. if the apartment accommodates four and costs $3000 per month they will proudly announce "Luxury central apartment from $25/night".

Gostiny Dvor. A mini-hotel in the outskirts of Ivanovo, in the Village of Kokhma, ulitsa Vladimirskaya 2, +7-4932-554220, www.miniotel.ru. Cheapest rooms 1000-1500 roubles ($35-55) as of summer 2011.
