Pereslavl-Zalessky WHERE About an hour after Sergiev Posad towards Yaroslavl, on the "Golden Ring" route. Accommodation Hotel Pereslavskaya on the main (Rostovskaya) street, tel. 8-4835-31788 or ...or 81559. A big all-purpose tourist-class hotel that can be noted for its tolerance and laissez-faire attitude. Back in '95 we were allowed to stay there with a dog. No they will not mind if your guests stay overnight, in effect which in effect allows the two of you to stay in a single $25/night room. The reverse side of their tolerance is crowds of kids on school holidays. (OUTDATED INFORMATION. NO WAY YOU CAN STAY WITH A DOG THESE DAYS. GUESTS WILL BE KICKED OUT OR CHARGED EXTRA. - AUG. 2011) The West Hotel, tel. ........., caters to the upscale crowd. Rates are from .... to ..... per night. [more from tourist leaflet] Food and drink Exit Hotel Pereslavskaya, go to the main street, and walk 100m till you see a "Traktir Okryt 24 chasa". Traktir, incidentally, means "roadhouse" and these rough-looking and smoke-smelling establishments offer some of the best food you can find. Cooking with Georgian or Azeri slant, some reasonably vegetarian options, a total bill for three, including my four drinks, was $30 including tip. Things to do Note two museums that give a fun glimpse into everyday life of old Russia. One is the Smothering Iron Museum on your right as you enter Pereslavl-Zalessky. Another one is the Museum of Pots and Kettles in the Village of Veskovo on your way from the city to the old railroad, which is also one of the key attractions. These museums also act as antique and souvenir shops, and many of the exhibits on the display can be transferred to your collection, for a fee. Pots and Kettles Museum: (08535) 2-25-83 Irons: ........... Old railroad: ........ Peter the Great's boat: .......... Pereslavl-Zalessky in the Internet, in English .... Page made in 1995 |
