From here trains will take you to Rzhev & St. Petersburg only. No direct train to Moscow. This is perhaps a minor inconvenience but a railroad station in the city helped Staritsa preserve its charm.

Staritsa Train Station (Stantsiya Staritsa) is NOT the same as the city itself. The station is 15 km from Staritsa.Getting to/from the city: buses running every two hours and cost next-to-nothing. A taxi ride will be $10-15.
Direct trains from Staritsa go only to Rzhev and Torzhok (twice a day) and St. Petersburg (every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, leaving about 11pm, arriving about 6am).
From Rzhev you can get to the Baltic cities of Riga, Vilnius, and Tallin, or to Moscow.
Recently the Staritsa station got connected to a computer network, making it possible to buy tickets from Staritsa to just about any destination in the FSU.
NOTE THAT THE TRAINS STOP FOR NO MORE THAN A MINUTE. YOU NEED TO MOVE FAST.
