Churches |
St.
Elias Church by the bus station is most popular one in Staritsa.
Visit it to see the Orthodox ritual that is happening morning to night,
and even overnight on holidays. The Trinity Convent around which the city developed back in the 13th-15th centuries is being re-established under the leadership of charismatic Father Hermogenus. Travel to the village of Krasnoye to see a highly unusual, for Russia, church in the Gothic style build by of of the famous architects of the the construction of St. Petersburg period. The Great Patriotic War |
The
front stopped around Staritsa / Tver / Rzhev / Zubtsov, and stayed here
moving a few miles back and forth for several months. The area is
saturated with war artifacts, and most cities have a local history
museum with over half of its exhibition dedicated to the history of the
Second World War.
